Theo DiCastri’s research is based on a series of articles and reports published in the early 1990s by a group of US American psychologists, psychiatrists and sociologists heralding the advent of a “new” science aimed at preventing “major human dysfunctions” and “mental disorders”. According to the founders of the “new” field, prevention science would differ from previous attempts to prevent “human dysfunctions” in that it would rise above the morality and ideology that dogged previous preventive efforts and offer “scientific” solutions.  Since then, prevention science has become an active, interdisciplinary professional domain and attracted a host of practitioners across the world.
