Galison's film "
Shattering Stars" examines how Indian physics prodigy Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar followed an arduous academic path from the formulation of a stellar theory considered by some too radical for its time in the 1930s. Only after decades of conventional research (while, at times, subject to the racist scrutiny of scientific colleagues) was the revolutionary character of Chandra's theory fully recognized with a Nobel Prize in 1983.
"Shattering Stars" is currently making the rounds in U.S. film festivals, including locally the
Independent Film Festival of Boston.
