Research Interests: History of surgery, science and technology studies, health inequity, medical education.

Broadly, Alex's research interests lie in the history of disease and medical technologies. Her focus centers on the interplay between early 20th-century surgical advancements, physician bias, and earned societal mistrust. As a medical student, she has developed a specific interest in the unintended consequences emerging cardiothoracic and neurosurgical practices have had on patient-physician trust. She is interested in how integrating inaccurate surgical precedents into training and decision-making historically impacted society's relationship with science and health. Her research is rooted in her commitment to increasing the presence of historical scholarship within medical education and promoting the essential role of historical context in culturally competent clinical care.
